Today’s The Day

Miss Terry’s dad, Pete Weber, has his surgery this morning, so Terry has to be up and out the door by a little after a.m. to get to the hospital before he goes in. I offered to go with her several times, but she insisted it wasn’t necessary and that with her mom and the three sisters there, I’d just be underfoot. We learned yesterday that, though the nodule is in his lung, his doctor suspects it may actually be a return of his previous cancer.

After reading yesterday’s blog, I got e-mails from three readers asking what kind of equipment audio book narrators are using. As I said, some have full studios, while others are working from home offices. An author friend of mine who does this on the side told me she uses a free software program called Audacity and a Yeti Blue Silver Edition microphone .

My good friend John Huggins, who produces the excellent Living The RV Dream podcasts with his wife Kathy told me they also use Audacity, which is available for both PC and Mac computers. John suggested that I download the software and use my and try to narrate the books myself with my Logitech USB H530 Headset . I’m not sure that’s a job I want to take on, or if I have the time to invest inn a project like that. I have received more auditions to narrate Big Lake that I need to sort through once Terry’s dad is home and stable and I have the new edition of the Gypsy Journal out.

That’s pretty much what I did most of the day yesterday, knocking out six more pages by the time Terry got home. The first half of the paper is always the easiest part. After that, fitting things together to get the most out of the available pages becomes more of a puzzle.

About 5 p.m. we left to pick up Greg and Jan and went to Grimaldi’s Pizzeria in San Tan Village for dinner. The original Grimaldi’s has been a New York landmark forever and when Greg and Jan learned that they had expanded, they were eager to take us there. It was good and definitely merits a listing in our Favorite Restaurants guide!

Having been stuck at home working for the last few days, it was good just to get out for a while. After dinner we sat there talking for an hour or so before it was time to get back home so I could get this blog written for Terry to proof so she could get to bed.

I’ll be doing the same thing today, along with worrying about Pete and waiting for Terry to call. This is a very stressful time for us. Please pray hard, folks.

Thought For The Day – You’re never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dream.

  1. Thoughts being sent towards Pete. Praying for a good result today. Have the best day you can Nick and Terry!! Take care you two.

  2. Nick I just finished the fourth in your Big Lake series and think that while they are all very good Blizzard is the best to date. You grow with every new book. This one had me laughing out loud at times, angry with the mayor and bad guys at times, and sad a time or two. I predict another bestseller. I’m already anticipating the next Big Lake book. I wish you could churn them out as fast as I can read them. 🙂

  3. Prayers with Pete, Terry’ mom and sisters, as well as you and Terry, please let us know when everything is over.

  4. Prayers will be coming your way.

  5. We continue with our prayers for Pete and the extended family. This is a difficult time for all of you and please know you have the thoughts and wishes of many.

  6. UPDATE: I have wonderful news! We have been blessed! Terry’s dad’s surgery was this morning and the doctor just told them there was no cancer at all!!! Up until yesterday afternoon they were saying cancer, but once they did the surgery they said it was an inflamed nodule in his lung, but it was NOT cancerous after all. We are so happy and relieved that we are bouncing off the walls.Thank you for all of your prayers. 🙂

  7. Just read your update. Joyful prayers being sent!! So happy for all of you.

Stayed up much too late last night reading Big Lake Blizzard, which we downloaded from Smashwords onto my Nook. You are getting better and better.

Usually, if I want a book for recreational reading, it’s more convenient to go shopping on my Nook than to go to Smashwords or Amazon. I seem to recall that Barnes and Noble gave you a hard time way back when. I wonder if it would be worthwhile for you to try that avenue again , because I am sure that many others with Nooks do the same as I do.

  8. Nick, that is wonderful news…so happy that cancer is not back!

  9. My prayers and thoughts were with you and I’m happy about the good news. Now CELEBRATE!

  10. Very thankful with you and yours for a good report. . .

  11. That is such good news! Gosh, I don’t even know you or Terry but I couldn’t be happier to hear this. I found myself thinking about you all several times today. Tell Pete he had a whole lot of people pulling for him. He sounds like a great guy.
