Already Busy

Our Early Bird arrival day is tomorrow, but we’ve already been busy parking dozens of RVs here at the Mercer County Fairgrounds in Celina, Ohio.

They started rolling in yesterday morning and it was nonstop all day long. I don’t know exactly how many rigs came in but I would estimate somewhere around 50. Most of them were coming from the FMCA rally in Indianapolis. They were arriving in ones and twos, and about the time we would get those folks pointed in the right direction more would show up.

No problem, the more the merrier!

I owe a big thank you to Ron and Brenda Speidel and Mike Loscher, who jumped in to help me yesterday and wound up spending most of the day out in the parking lot getting folks off the street and into their sites.

I think it’s going to be a little slower today, although who knows? We have heard from a lot of people who want to get in and off the road for the holiday weekend, so they may show up today.

While I was busy with the parking crew, Miss Terry and Elaine Loscher were in the Junior Fair Building all day getting the kitchen cleaned up and arranged for all of this week’s activities.

About 5 o’clock we got together with Greg and Jan, and Mike and Elaine, to go to dinner. But then I had to put everybody on hold while I ran back up front to park a couple more rigs that showed up. At about the time I got them squared away another one arrived!

Eventually we did get away for dinner at Big Bamboo Dockside Grill, an open-air restaurant where we had excellent views of the lake while we had dinner. The food was okay, but nothing special to write home about in my opinion, though Terry said her crab cakes were very good. I give this place a C for food, C- for service, and a B for the views out across the lake.

It is been months since I’ve had a Dairy Queen fix, so we headed there for dessert before returning to the fairgrounds about 7:30. A group of folks were sitting outside slapping skeeters and telling lies, so we joined in for a while. Then I had to run down front to park another rig that came in.

By the time the party broke up and we got inside, sometime around 9:30 PM, we were both worn out. I would have been happy to take a shower and head for bed, but there was a blog to write and e-mails to answer. So I did that instead.

I’ve had a problem with my Droid Razr Max for the last couple of weeks in that the sound seems to disappear and I miss telephone calls because it never rings. I fiddled around with it and tried this and tried that, and nothing worked. So yesterday I turned it over to the pros. No, not the dweebs of Verizon, what do they know? I gave it to Barbara Westerfield to fix. She spent some time online researching the problem and then even longer on the telephone with Verizon technical support.

Apparently this is a known issue with this model of phone, and the short-term fix is to rub the back of the phone with your finger just under the camera and speaker. Barb was told that sometimes this is a temporary fix and sometimes solves the problem altogether. So I tried it what do I have to lose? Who knew a smart phone would insist on a little bit of petting to keep our relationship alive? I wouldn’t be surprised if its little computer voice doesn’t say, “If you love me, you’ll let me.”

  1. Can’t resist – ‘you run’.

  2. Nick – Can you comment on the condition of the fairgrounds now and
maybe later today after you get the tropical rain that I just read was
forcasted. We plan to arrive Sun. around 1 P.M. after a 3 hour drive.
    Thanks.

  3. It is just starting to rain now, but so far everything is dry. Lots of RVs here already.

You said: “Miss Terry and Elaine Loscher were in the Junior Fair Building all day getting the kitchen cleaned up.”

I guess it is too much to ask for a clean kitchen.

I bet that you guys leave the place cleaner than when you arrived.
