You know, they’re right, time really does fly! I don’t know where the days go, but I look around and suddenly we’re down to only a couple of days left here in Arizona’s White Mountains.
We are scheduled to leave the Show Low Elks Lodge campground on Thursday morning. We wouldn’t mind staying a couple of extra days, but the new manager tells me the place is completely booked up, starting on Thursday, for the rest of the summer. As of now, there are only four or five RVs in the place, and at least 15 RV sites sitting empty. There are high winds predicted for the next several days, so I’m hoping that there’ll be a cancellation and we can hang around a while longer. I talked to the manager yesterday morning, and he didn’t give me much hope that would happen, but we will wait and see. If not, there are other options available to us.
Regular blog readers will know that we have been unhappy with our Select Comfort Sleep Number Bed forever. I know some folks love them, but I know a lot more who feel the same way we do about them; all advertising hype and little value to the product. We’ve been shopping for a replacement mattress for quite a while now, and yesterday we stopped at Joy’s Furniture in Lakeside to see what they had to offer. Owner Ralph Joy was one of my best customers, and a very good friend, when I published the weekly newspaper here, back in our old life before we became fulltime RVers. We found a very comfortable pillow top Simmons Beautyrest Georgetown mattress that we liked a lot, and Ralph made us an offer we just couldn’t refuse. So Thursday or Friday, or whenever we leave here, we’ll stop at his store on the way out and they’ll load it in for us.
We got back to the campground just a few minutes before my daughter Tiffany and her boyfriend Scott stopped over to visit. We had a nice time, and Scott’s daughter Gracie brought along Spensive, their puppy that I wrote about a few days ago. Anytime I can meet a pretty girl and get a puppy fix it’s a good day. That little critter is just as cute as can be, and I sure do like playing with him. Not enough that I want to own one, I’m too lazy and too selfish to be responsible for an animal. Heck, it’s all I can do to take care of myself. Oh, who do I think I’m kidding? We all know that it’s Miss Terry who keeps me out of trouble on a daily basis!
Today marks my one year anniversary publishing e-books on Amazon’s Kindle bookstore. It’s been a crazy year, and I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into, but I’m sure glad I did! I summarized my experiences over the last year as an independent e-book author and publisher in a post on my self-publishing blog, titled A Year Of E-Books. If you have any interest in self-publishing you might find it worth your time to check it out.
Terry’s parents are supposed to arrive here sometime today. They spent twelve years as fulltime RVers, and even though they now have a home in East Mesa, they keep their motorhome at the Hon-Dah RV Park and spend their summers up here in the cool pines to escape the desert heat. We’ll probably spend some time helping them get settled in today. And while we’re there, we’ll check out the RV park to see if they have any openings in case we do have to leave the Elks Lodge campground on Thursday.
Thought For The Day – Everything happens for a reason. But sometimes the reason is that you are stupid and make bad decisions.
Time flies when you are having fun. You can quote me on that, Nick. After Kevin’s thoughtless comment yesterday I think we should call you “slim.” Boy, I wonder who peed in his Wheaties?
Congrats on your one year anniversary with the e-books. You are a great success story to other authors and an inspiration. I hope your second year is even better!
I just have one question for you..how are you getting a new coilspring mattress into your coach? One of the reasons we got the sleep number bed is because of the ease of getting it inside. But part of the difficulty was because we have a king mattress now and wanted to keep the same size. There was no way it was going to come through the door without damaging the springs if we got an innerspring mattress.
Jeannie,
It will be a tight fit, but Terry says it will go so I defer to her wisdom i such matters. She’s never been wrong yet.
Of course your reward for making the money is to spend some of it on RV repairs and maybe some people repairs, ie., medical.
