Several people have written to ask if the replacement for the 4G MiFi from Verizon is any better than the first one. So far, so good, but I’ve only had it for a couple of days now. But so far it hasn’t crashed yet and it has stayed locked onto the 4G signal with no problems. I’ve done a few speed tests, with an average download speed of 437 to 450 kb/s and upload speeds of 750 to 847 kb/s. That is about ten times faster than I was averaging here in the same place with the original MiFi. If it continues to give me this kind of service I will be very pleased.
We have been very unhappy with our Select Comfort air bed almost from the time we bought it, and we’ve been mattress shopping for a while now. The other day we stopped into a place that had a nice selection of mattresses, and the store manager was very good about answering all our questions. We even found one that we wanted and he quoted us a price, but then said that his regional manager happened to be in the store at that time, and he might be able to get us a better discount than that.
Okay, I want a new mattress and I’m all for saving money, so I asked him what kind of deal he was talking about. He said he couldn’t tell me that until I handed him my credit card, then he would go talk to the regional manager. I don’t think so! I don’t just hand my credit card to anybody. I told him I was going to buy a mattress, he had a mattress we liked, and I would hand him cash if he gave me a price I could live with. But he refused, saying their policy was I had to give him a credit card before he could give me a price. I thanked him for his time and we left.
What is it with businesses these days? It is my understanding that times are kind of hard, so when you have a cash buyer in front of you and he has already told you he likes your product and is ready to purchase, why play silly games like some used car salesman? Why not just give them a price and be done with it? So the score so far is MiFi 1, Mattress 0.
We will be mailing off the last of the new issues of the Gypsy Journal today and it’s always a good feeling to get that chore behind us. We only have a few days left here and we are looking forward to having some free time to spend with Terry’s family before we go. We’re looking forward to getting back on the road, but we treasure the time we have had with our loved ones here.
Thought For The Day – Sometimes when it looks like things are falling apart, they are actually falling into place.
Love my Select Comfort. I have had it for 16yrs now. Went shopping for new one but can’t get the correct length to fit RV. RV Queen is to short and Regular Queen is too long. Still searching, but have been very satisfied with Select Comfort hoping we can come up with a solution. No problems with the mattress not even a small leak.
I think I would have reported the Mattress salesman and company to the local police as a possible fraud operation.
We love the Tempurpedic mattress and can recommend it without reservations. A bit pricey. But you use it for 1/3 of your life and it lasts a long time!
I am still sorry that I sold our 10 yr old Tempurpedic with one of the last coaches. It was a good as the first day we owned it, but the “new” coach had a brand new mattress. The SOB Memory Foam deals are just not as good, for all that they are 14″ thick and a less shocking price. When the budget allows, I am opting for another Tempurpedic … I promise. As far as that Salesman … I would have gotten on my phone and called the Regional Sales Office right then and there. Sounds pretty shady, to me!
I agree with the others, Nick. That salesman should be reported to the police. Who demands you hand over your credit card before they quote a price? Once they have that account number (and the “security number” on the back), they have your account. Let us know if there’s any followup to this weird situation.
Nick, I’m concerned about your 4G download speed on your new MiFi. 437 to 450 kb/s is nowhere close to what 4G speed should be. 4G download speeds are normally in the several mb/s range (that’s 1,000’s of kb/s). I have a 4G phone and I consistently get 8-12 mb/s download speeds (8,000 – 12,000 kb/s). I don’t know if a MiFi handles a signal different from a phone, but I would think they’d be the same. Just a thought.
I have heard that the “I have to have your credit card before I can give you a price” is a scam run by shady salespeople. Once they have your card, they don’t give it back until you buy from them or call 911. Leaving was smart!
Nick,
I second Jim Walter’s comment. If you are truly locked onto a 4G signal something is wrong. I am getting 1 to 3 Mbits/sec on a 3G signal on my 760 air card. You should be seeing download speeds of around 8 to 12 Mbits/sec on 4G. Either your MiFi is lying to you or else it is a piece of junk, my own opinion and not fact.
