Winter Returns

Winter has returned to Arizona with a vengeance. All Thursday night, and all day Friday, the wind rocked our motorhome, and the sky was gray and ugly. I’m still not feeling all that great, so it was a good day to stay inside. I did some work on the new issue of the Gypsy Journal, but my brain is still foggy and I have no energy, so I’m not sure how much I actually accomplished.

We finally ventured outdoors about 5 p.m. to ride into Cottonwood with Greg and Jan for dinner at Sizzler. The food was just as good as it was last week, but our server left a lot to be desired. It’s not often that I only leave a dollar tip in a restaurant, but with this guy, that was generous. Some people are not cut out for dealing with the public, and he obviously is one of them.

Back at the Thousand Trails campground, Greg and Jan visited with us in our motorhome for a while, then retreated to the warmth of their American Eagle. I had recorded the last two episodes of Who Do You Think You Are? genealogy television show, so Terry and I watched them until almost bedtime.

The overnight temperature dropped down into the 30s, and we have an inch of snow predicted today. Did I mention that I hate winter? 🙁

We plan to stay home today, and if I can muster up any energy, I really need to get some work done. For the last few days, I have been pretty much worthless. If I don’t start earning my keep, Miss Terry may kick me to the curb! 🙂 and I can’t say that I would blame her.

Terry has enjoyed the downtime to get some baking done, and Greg and Jan have enjoyed reaping the benefit of her output. Of course, I’m not complaining either! 🙂 She made some delicious bread the other day, and today she’s making bagels. Yummy!

I’ve received a couple of letters from blog readers asking about our Eastern Gypsy Journal Rally and expressing concern what the weather might be like in Ohio that time of year. Usually it very nice, with pleasant days and cool evenings, and the leaves will be turning to put on a beautiful color display. It’s my favorite time of the year.

We’re due to leave here on Wednesday, and with the downturn in the weather, it’s a pretty sure bet that the Show Low Elks lodge campground won’t be opening by then. So we may see if we can get into the nearby Western Horizons campground for a week under our Resorts of Distinction (ROD) membership. I hope so, because if I don’t get some more energy, I don’t think I’m up to traveling very far.

  1. Maybe you are dehydrated. . .gatorade always perks me right up when I start dragging. Of course, I immediately recognize my symptoms. . .carrying mail in Houston in the summer will do you in quickly. . .can’t hurt to try rehydrating your body.

  2. Sorry you are not feeling up to snuff.
It sounds like your penchant for attracting lousy weather has not suffered, though. How does this bode for Celina? You might want to tone it down a bit in the blog. If the town’s citizenry gets wind of your weather antics, they may not let us in!
    Feel better.

  3. Maybe if you checked into one of the spas in that state you would be renewed. Lack of bllue sky and heat might be affecting you. Just stay out of FL as I am enjoying the nice warm weather. Feel better, seriously you may need to R&R for a couple of days and let Terry pamper you.

  4. See – you left Florida and it warmed up, you chose to stay out west this summer and now it is supposed to be 80 in Elkhart tomorrow. Jim may be right, do not let the Celina Chamber of Commerce klnow you are coming. btw – back to the 50s on monday

  5. Nick, Last spring we stayed at the Cottonwood Fairgrounds – electric and water – just an option for you if you cannot get into the WH. They have a dump station near the entrance… I just love the Cottonwood Area – :-))). Hope you feel better.

  6. Concerning your time at TT, you might be able to buy your week out instead of moving. Check with the office. Someitmes it’s worth it not to have pull everything together. I think it’s about $130 for a week. Then you can stay another 2 weeks on your plan. The WHR resort isn’t as nice as the TT.

  7. John & Linda,
This is the peak season for this Thousand Trails preserve, so we have to be out 28 days under our membership.

  8. We left Casa Grande for Globe, AZ on Thur, heading for Canyon de Chelly. Got stranded in Globe all day Fri. The Jello melted we went south back to I-10 to go east. 12 inches of snow in Show Low is unreasonable. Hope it warms up and melts soon so you can get to the grand kids.
