Away We Go!

We got the last of the new issue of the Gypsy Journal mailed off yesterday afternoon, which is always a good feeling. So watch your mailboxes, they’ll be there as soon as all of those heavily armed disgruntled postal workers can get them to you.

Now we can concentrate on playing for the next six weeks. Well, playing, and blog writing, and rally planning, and story gathering, and book writing – yep, that’s all fun to me! 🙂

After we finished up at the post office and the UPS Store in Cottonwood, we came back to the Western Horizons campground and spent some time visiting with Dennis and Carol Hill from the RV Driving School, admiring the new cabinets RV Renovators  installed in their Dutch Star motorhome. Very nice!

Then we stopped at John and Addie Strodel’s Newmar Mountain Aire and chatted with them for a while. John offered to take a bundle of Gypsy Journals with them to drop off at RV parks as they travel east, which we always appreciate. It helps introduce new readers to the paper in places where we can’t get to.

Now that we had the new issue mailed off, we could repack the inside of the Explorer, and actually put our back seat back up to make room for passengers. And since we had that room, why not pick up a couple of passengers? About 5 p.m. we went back by Dennis and Carol’s motorhome, and the four of us drove up to La Fonda, everybody’s favorite Mexican restaurant, to meet Greg and Jan for dinner.

Dennis and Carol had never been there before, but they were just as impressed with the food and the service as we have been. Missy, our regular waitress, knew exactly what Greg, Jan, Terry, and I wanted to drink, and what we usually order too. She has spoiled us, and we’ll be looking a long time for a waitress as good as she is!

Dinner was fun, and Terry and I spent most of it listening to the others talking about their RV travels in Alaska. Greg and Jan spent a summer workamping at an RV park there, and Dennis and Carol are going back on their fourth Alaskan RV trip this summer. We’re jealous! It’s very high on our list of places to get to!

But today we’re headed in another direction, over to our old hometown of Show Low, to spend some time with my daughter and her family. We’ve had fun during our three weeks here in the Verde Valley, and we’re looking forward to coming back again.

We’ve decided to take Highway 260, which is a pretty steep climb, with a lot of curves, but Greg and Jan will be right behind us in their American Dream, so if our Winnebago bogs down, he can push us to the top of the hills! I’m not sure how he plans to slow us down on the downhill runs. 🙂

  1. Boy, don’t I feel special!

You don’t even know what rig we have.

It’s an Eagle, not a dream.

  2. Nick,

Why not hold a caravan to Alaska. Greg would make one heckuva “wagon master”? Seriously, you’d have enough participants with various mechanical skills to help anyone who might have a problem.

  3. Your visit to the Verde Valley has reminded us of our stay there a few years ago. It’s one of our favorite places …… Sedona, Camp Verde, Cottonwood, Jerome, and Prescott … Such a beautiful area. Thanks for the pictures.

  4. I second George Stoltz’s Alaska caravan idea! I think you’d get a *great* turnout. I suspect there would be a line of RVs stretching from Saskatchewan to the Yukon Territories (I know I would be there!).

  5. I’ll be looking forward to the trip report. I’m assuming you are taking 260 right out of Camp Verde all the way to Show Low. I’ve always wondered how it would be driving a mh on 260 from Camp Verde to Payson.

  6. Nick,

On your thought for the day: Our past is changed all the time; they call themselves “historians.”

  7. We third the Alaska trip!! Will be there with you. I have tagalong itinerary that can be emailed to you. Lot of good info can be modified.
