No, Santa Claus isn’t coming to town, but the RV gypsies are! We’re so close to the start of our Arizona Gypsy Gathering rally that I can see all of those motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and B vans coming down the highway!
Right now, we have 175 RVs registered, and who knows how many more will show up? Every year we have a lot of folks who just arrive, register, and join in on the fun. If you haven’t registered yet, you can still register online, or just come on in and join the party.
We have been busy finalizing all of the rally lists, forms, and schedules, then checking and re-checking them to correct any mistakes or omissions. The rally seminar schedule has been a real challenge. We have a whopping 74 seminars on the schedule, everything from RVing in Alaska, to driving an RV, geocaching, satellite systems, boondocking, crafts, and more than I can list here.
Be sure to check out our Rally Registration Page, and scroll to the bottom to see the updated schedule. I have changed and modified the schedule dozens of times, to be sure we don’t have two seminars at the same time that compete with each other, to accommodate speakers who wanted to attend a different seminar that is being offered in their time slot, and to deal with last minute cancellations and additions. If I had any hair left, I’d pull it out.
Terry and Barbara Westerfield have been working on Volunteer Sign Up Sheets, registration forms, name tags, at the gate to greet day pass visitors, and a lot more. We need volunteers to help with registration, parking, the pizza party, as room hosts, to help with morning coffee and donuts, and other tasks as they come up. So if you’re afraid of getting bored, don’t worry, we’ll put you to work!
Unfortunately, one last minute cancellation is going to disappoint a lot of people. Joe and Vicki Kieva have had to cancel their appearance at our rally, because Joe is not feeling well. It’s nothing serious, but it will prevent them from traveling to Yuma from their home in California. Joe and Vicki wanted me to tell everyone that they are sorry to have to cancel, and we are looking forward to having them join us again at next year’s rally.
Speaking of our friends, Joe and Vicki have an interesting post about camping at an RV rally on their blog, that a lot of new rally attendees who are worried about how to get by on limited services will find very useful. Check it out, you’ll learn a lot to make your rally experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Even with all of the work we’ve been doing, we still find time to have fun. When Greg and Jan White were out collecting door prize yesterday afternoon, they stopped at Applebee’s Restaurant, and by the time the manager could break free and get them a gift certificate, Jan knew where we were going to dinner! I tell you, all of us on the advance crew will need to go on a diet once this rally is over! If we exercise and work hard at it, we’ll be back down to our fighting weight just in time to start packing on the calories as we prepare for our Eastern Gypsy Gathering, in Ohio in September!
