Stuffing envelopes. Many, many envelopes. That about sums up our first day of the new year. Miss Terry has been busy getting the new issue of the Gypsy Journal stuffed into envelopes so we can get it mailed off first thing Monday morning, so I don’t think she even stepped outside all day long. That lady is amazing; she has her own system of doing things and won’t let anybody help her, and she can stuff and seal a hundred envelopes so fast that it will make your head spin. I just try to stay out of the way and let her do her thing.
While Terry was doing her thing, I was kept busy carrying fresh bundles of papers in from the Explorer, and carrying filled mail tubs back out. I also had a lot of year end paperwork that I had allowed to pile up, so I spent a lot of time at my computer playing catch up.
With every bundle of newspapers, the top and bottom copies are always ruined in the process of loading and unloading them, so I made several trips down to the dumpster during the day, and I noticed one of those little pet peeve things of mine. Why do people open a dumpster lid, drop their trash in the front, and walk away? I can’t tell you how many campground dumpsters I have seen that are piled so high in the front that you can’t cram one more thing in, while the back is almost empty.
How hard is it to throw the trash to the back so other people can toss their trash in too, and the darned thing doesn’t have to be emptied as often? Doing so would save the campground a few bucks every year, save the trash company some fuel and manpower, and hopefully help keep everybody’s costs down in the long run.
I had a friend who was a hot air balloon pilot at one time, and though I never flew with him (because they launch those darned things very early in the morning), except for one tethered ascent to take photos for the newspaper I owned back in Arizona, I love seeing them floating through the air so gracefully. So when Miss Terry saw these two over the Orlando Thousand Trails preserve the other day, I had to get a picture.
Thanks to everybody for your comments on our new blog format. The transition has been very smooth, thanks to all of the hard work Chris Guld from Geeks on Tour put into the project. If you haven’t checked out the Geeks website, you really need to do so. They have an amazing amount of computer knowledge online to share, from using the Picasa photo management program, to Google Earth, computer mapping programs, creating a blog, and much, much more.
We have a brief warm up here in central Florida, and then it’s supposed to cool off again later in the week. I’m hoping we can get the mailing all done in time to get our kayaks wet. It won’t be long before we have to start heading west for our Arizona Gypsy Gathering rally, and once we leave here, I have no idea when we’ll have another opportunity to do any paddling.
Thought For The Day – Many times blessings come disguised as problems.
Hey Nick, must be something wrong with the new format time clock. Blog post says 5:40 am Jan 2 but we aren’t that far in the future yet. Bad Al always says it is easy to be a critic.
The time when I posted reply was 9:57 pm Pacific time. Hope that helps.
Great new format!! Happy New Year to you both, may 2011 find you laughing often and smiling the rest of the time.
Nice crisp look, I like it.
Jan
Al,
Thanks for noticing the time issue. I had not set the time zone yet. So, I entered Eastern time. But then, I’ll need to change it when Nick goes west. I wonder if I should just setting it to Central time, then it will be close enough to leave it alone?
Nick….maybe when you’re in Yuma you can get the Kayaks to Lake Martinez or the Colorado River! I’m considering a Sea Eagle but really waiting until you try yours a little more before I “take the Plunge!”
Chris, I sent you an email reply with what I think is causing the problem. I don’t think it is a time zone issue, because there appears to be a 5 hour time error.
Have a great day.
I really like the new format, thanks for the neat pictures of the hot air balloons. I will always admire them from the ground. Three things prevent me from going up. A small basket to stand in, a propane tank at your back and fear of heights. Last reason the biggest.
I can’t seem to find the RSS feed subscription, am I missing it?
Happy New Year Nick and Terry, We love the new look. As for the dumpster issue we also wonder why people leave the top open. It’s probably a laziness issue.
