Envelopes, Dumpsters, And Balloons

Stuffing envelopes. Many, many envelopes. That about sums up our first day of the new year. Miss Terry has been busy getting the new issue of the Gypsy Journal stuffed into envelopes so we can get it mailed off first thing Monday morning, so I don’t think she even stepped outside all day long. That lady is amazing; she has her own system of doing things and won’t let anybody help her, and she can stuff and seal a hundred envelopes so fast that it will make your head spin. I just try to stay out of the way and let her do her thing.

While Terry was doing her thing, I was kept busy carrying fresh bundles of papers in from the Explorer, and carrying filled mail tubs back out. I also had a lot of year end paperwork that I had allowed to pile up, so I spent a lot of time at my computer playing catch up.

With every bundle of newspapers, the top and bottom copies are always ruined in the process of loading and unloading them, so I made several trips down to the dumpster during the day, and I noticed one of those little pet peeve things of mine. Why do people open a dumpster lid, drop their trash in the front, and walk away? I can’t tell you how many campground dumpsters I have seen that are piled so high in the front that you can’t cram one more thing in, while the back is almost empty.

How hard is it to throw the trash to the back so other people can toss their trash in too, and the darned thing doesn’t have to be emptied as often? Doing so would save the campground a few bucks every year, save the trash company some fuel and manpower, and hopefully help keep everybody’s costs down in the long run. 

I had a friend who was a hot air balloon pilot at one time, and though I never flew with him (because they launch those darned things very early in the morning), except for one tethered ascent to take photos for the newspaper I owned back in Arizona, I love seeing them floating through the air so gracefully. So when Miss Terry saw these two over the Orlando Thousand Trails preserve the other day, I had to get a picture.

If you haven’t checked out the Geeks website, you really need to do so. They have an amazing amount of computer knowledge online to share, from using the Picasa photo management program, to Google Earth, computer mapping programs, creating a blog, and much, much more.

We have a brief warm up here in central Florida, and then it’s supposed to cool off again later in the week. I’m hoping we can get the mailing all done in time to get our kayaks wet. It won’t be long before we have to start heading west for our Arizona Gypsy Gathering rally, and once we leave here, I have no idea when we’ll have another opportunity to do any paddling.
